February 4, 2014, Las Vegas, NV – Today during the 2014 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, Phil Kean was named “2013 National Association of Home Builders’ (NAHB) Custom Home Builder of the Year.” Kean, president of Phil Kean Design Group and WAYCOOL Homes, LLC, was presented with the award during the Custom Building Central Awards Luncheon.

Based in Winter Park, FL, Kean has been in business for over 11 years. His success is due his innovative architecture, sustainable construction, and great customer service. Kean’s firm, Phil Kean Design Group (PKDG), built the first LEED Gold certified home in Central Florida and the highest scoring FGBC (Florida Green Building Coalition) certified home in 2012. His homes have won national and international awards and have been featured in publications such as Florida Design, Robb Report and in custom home publications in countries including Brazil, China, Hungary and India.
PKDG was chosen by the NAHB to be the Architect, Builder and Interior Designer for The 2012 New American Home, built in Winter Park, FL. The home was toured by more than 8,000 visitors during the 2012 International Builders Show held in Orlando, FL. Kean is also involved in the NAHB Custom Builder 20 Club and serves on the NAHB Leading Suppliers Council Board of Trustees. Locally Kean serves as the President of Orlando’s Master Custom Builder Council, on the City of Winter Park’s Board of Adjustments and on the city of Lake Nona’s Review Board.

Kean serves on the University of Central Florida’s Foundation Board of Directors, donated his architectural services and consultation to a 2013 St. Jude Dream Home built in San Antonio, TX, and has donated architectural and construction services to Orlando’s non-profit charitable organization, Zebra Coalition.
