“Red8” – 2016 Parade of Homes Entry
Red8 is a one-of-a-kind custom home designed and built by Phil Kean Design Group. The home’s name is derived from Chinese symbolism. The color red symbolizes luck, happiness and joy in the Chinese culture. The number 8 is the most prosperous number in Chinese culture, as the word for “eight” (Ba in Chinese) sounds like the word for “prosper” and “wealth” (Fa in Chinese). In Chinese daily life the number 8 is favored when buying residences, choosing telephone numbers, selecting dates for special events, etc.; for this reason, the lucky number 8 is incorporated into the home’s name.
The home features an indoor/outdoor floor plan with a generous lanai and pool area, an expansive balcony, and sliding glass walls that transform the home into a single indoor/outdoor living space. Since the site has a water view, the home was designed in a L-shape to take advantage of the view from all areas of the home. The open floor plan allows rooms to easily flow from one to another and natural light to generously fill the interior spaces.
The large lanai acts as an extension of the indoors and adds 1,200 sq. ft. to the home’s living and entertaining space.
The extensive use of 4 ft. roof overhangs provides shade during the day and the built-in retractable screens protect against insects and hold in up to 90% of the homes conditioned air.
A simplified palate of neutral, warm colors and mature landscaping blend the home with nature. Quartz ledgestone is used on both the exterior and the interior of the home to create architectural definition. Large format porcelain floor tile runs throughout the interiors, across the lanai and around the pool deck to facilitate the circulation from inside to out. The elaborate pool area includes a sizable sun shelf, fire feature and a Chinese-inspired glossy red, stand-alone art wall that is up-lit in the evenings.
Other features include a Phil Kean signature reflecting staircase, gourmet kitchen, spa room with sauna, game room, wet bar, summer kitchen, 1st and 2nd floor living rooms, and three car garage. In addition, the home is pending “green” certification by the National Green Building Standard certification program. (Photos and video by Uneek Luxury Tours, LLC)
